Michael W. Stankiewicz '81

Dec. 10, 1959-Mar. 18, 2020

Michael W. Stankiewicz ’81, an engineer of Townsend, Mass., and Barnet, Vt., valued family, and he considered his Chi Psi fraternity brothers among them.

Friends remember that “Stanky,” as he was known on College Hill, rejoiced in telling stories from his Hamilton days. He believed firmly in the value of education and eagerly shared his own considerable learning with others.

Born on Dec. 10, 1959, in Abington, Mass., he was a son of Edmund and Katherine Winiewicz Stankiewicz. He graduated from Abington High School before heading to Hamilton, where he majored in mathematics. He continued his education by earning a master’s degree in electoral engineering from Northeastern University in 1986. Over the course of his career, he worked in software engineering.

Stankiewicz died on March 18, 2020, at age 60. To honor his life and love for his alma mater, his family, friends, classmates, and fraternity brothers created a memorial scholarship to ensure that others like him will benefit from a Hamilton education. “Hamilton represented everything that was most important to him, and knowing that this scholarship will enable students in the future to experience the College as he did would give him great pleasure and make him even prouder of Hamilton,” said his fraternity brother Stuart Williams ’81.

Stankiewicz enjoyed more than three decades of marriage to the former Ellynmarie Threep, and the couple were best friends, a published obituary noted. Survivors include his wife, three children, a brother, and other relatives.
