Charles Kazmier Mazur '39

Charles Kazmier Mazur ’39, a longtime Electric Co. employee, was born on March 1, 1916, in Brooklyn, NY. A son of Antoni and Wladyslawa Wojciechowska Mazur, he grew up in Johnstown, NY, and was graduated from Johnstown High School. He came Hamilton in 1935 and remained on the Hill for a year.

First employed by the Henry J. Lesser Glove Co. in Johnstown, Charles Mazur entered the U.S. Army in 1941 and served in the European theater. In 1945, while he was aboard a troopship bound for the Pacific, World War II ended, and he soon obtained his discharge with the rank of staff sergeant.

In 1961, after employment by the John Hancock Insurance Co. as an agent and broker, Charles Mazur went to work in the purchasing department of General Electric in Schenectady. Later transferred to GE’s Aerospace Division in Utica, he worked as an engineering technician on such projects as the Viking Orbiter. He retired in 1980.

Charles K. Mazur, who had continued to reside in Johnstown, died at his home on October 23, 2004. Surviving are his wife, the former Rose Velardi Tlusta, whom he had married in 1969, as well as three stepdaughters, three grandchildren, and two brothers.
