Adam Lloyd Levin

Adam Lloyd Levin '74

Oct. 21, 1952-Mar. 26, 2020

Devoted to his family and to his legal career, Adam Lloyd Levin ’74, of Hingham, Mass., also committed himself to community service, quietly earning the respect of those who witnessed his contributions over the decades.

“Although Adam was a soft-spoken gentleman who shied away from the spotlight, when he spoke at meetings, people listened as his words were always wise, measured, and thoughtful. Family, friends, and colleagues often turned to him for advice and guidance,” a published obituary noted. Levin died on March 26, 2020, at age 67.

He was born on Oct. 21, 1952, in Westport, Conn., the son of Stanley and Lois Levin, who were civil servants. He graduated from Governor Dummer Academy (now The Governor’s Academy) high school. At Hamilton, Levin majored in religious studies, earning departmental honors. He was involved with the Chapel Club and Student Health Committee and was an organizer and president of the Keehn Co-op. He also served on the Health Advisory Board and received a community service award.

Levin spent a summer during his Hamilton years in Miquelon, an isolated island south of Newfoundland, where he learned to speak French and hiked.

After he graduated from College, he took six months or so off to ride his bike around the country with a friend before heading back to school. He earned a degree from Boston College Law School and started to practice in 1978. He worked for a dozen years as a real estate attorney, then started a solo practice with an emphasis on commercial real estate transactions, in particular negotiating leases for cinema complexes.

His belief in community service was evident, even as he faced catastrophic health issues throughout the decades. Levin served on the board of directors of the Hingham Rotary Club until he was too ill to continue. He was a fixture in the Fourth of July parade, selling buttons to raise money for the parade, often with his daughter at his side, his obituary noted.

Levin served from 2005 to 2006 on the Wellspring Center board of directors in Hull, Mass., and helped launch the Hingham Symphony Orchestra, joining its board of trustees. Throughout his life, he was a lover of travel, especially to national parks, where he and his wife hiked and birdwatched.

Despite his health problems, he was a fighter to the end, his obituary said, and never lost his will to share his life with his family and to be active in the community. Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Gail Nathanson, a daughter, and a sister.
