Commencement 2017


The Hamilton community looks forward to welcoming family and friends of the Class of 2020 to campus for Commencement Weekend. Tickets are not required for any weekend ceremonies or meals.

Planning for Commencement

Graduation Requirements

  • Seniors must be certified by the registrar as having passed all the academic requirements for the A.B. (Bachelor of Arts) degree.
  • All bills must be paid by May 1, 2022 (or arrangements made to do so to the satisfaction of the Business Office).


Electronic tickets (up to 8 per student) will be available in early 2022. Please check back in February for more information about securing tickets.

Caps and Gowns (Academic Regalia)

Seniors will place orders for environmentally friendly “GreenWeaver” academic regalia through the Bookstore during Grad-Fair Days, February 26 & 27. There is no cost for students' cap and gown. Phone orders will be accepted after February 27 for students not on campus. Regalia can be picked up at the end of Senior Week. Class Rings

Seniors may place orders for class rings through the Bookstore during Grad-Fair Days, February 26 & 27, or directly through Balfour at www.balfour.com

Diploma Frames

Diploma frames from Framing Success and Churchill Classics are available for purchase at the Bookstore, 315-859-4242, hambooks@hamilton.edu or www.hamilton.edu/bookstore.

2022 Hamilton yearbooks will be mailed in the fall to the current address on file for each graduate. Photos from Commencement will be included in the yearbook. To update addresses, email alumni@hamilton.edu


Weekend Details


Families are invited to attend this multi-faith celebration on Saturday afternoon, which includes remarks by a noted speaker, students and chaplains reading texts from different spiritual traditions, and music selections by the College Choir. Seniors process in academic regalia.

Campus Facilities

Use of campus facilities during Commencement Weekend is restricted to College-sponsored events. For venues for private parties refer to our lists of local attractions and restaurants.

Lost and Found

Check with Campus Safety for items lost or found during Commencement Weekend, 315-859-4141.


Cars may be parked in all College parking lots except where designated for special purpose. The Main and Western quadrangles will be closed to all traffic beginning Thursday evening and will reopen to allow for the removal of personal belongings from residence halls on Sunday following Commencement. The College does not permit public parking behind Bristol Center, Sadove Student Center or Soper Hall of Commons. By law, parking is not permitted on Campus Road.

On Sunday morning, shuttle buses will be available from North Lot and the Kirkland campus lots for the convenience of guests.

Accessible parking is available in the Field House lot, which is close to both the Baccalaureate and Commencement ceremonies.


We are not able to accommodate pets at any Commencement Weekend events. Only certified service animals will be permitted in the Field House. Emotional support animals will not be permitted in campus facilities for public events.


During the ceremony, Island Photography will take photos of each student as they cross the stage. You will receive an email to view your proofs within 2-3 days after the ceremony and paper proofs by US mail within 5-7 days. Photographers will also be available for family photos outdoors after the event near the Field House. The Margaret Bundy Scott Field House will accommodate up to eight guests per graduating senior. Tickets will be issued. Doors open at 8:30 a.m., and all guests are encouraged to arrive on campus no later than 9:15 a.m. to find parking and seating. Please note that ushers will not allow "early birds" to save blocks of seats.


Electronic tickets (up to 8 per student) will be available in early 2022. Please check back in February for more information about securing tickets. In addition, the A Cappella Concert at noon on Saturday will also require tickets, and information for this concert will be sent to students in early May.

Live Webcast

The baccalaureate and commencement ceremonies will be broadcast live online.

Wheelchair and Special Assistance

To make seating arrangements for guests with wheelchairs or other special needs, please enter the pertinent information on this online survey.

Hearing-assistive devices will be available on loan in the main entrance of the Field House during the Baccalaureate and Commencement ceremonies. No advance reservation is necessary, but identification will be required. Audiovisual Services, 315-859-4120.
