From the Editor - Maureen Scoones

A warm welcome to new faculty and staff and welcome back to those spending the summer off the Hill! Once again, members of ITS spent the summer upgrading various computer systems on campus. This newsletter contains highlights of the changes, friendly reminders about some services we offer, more details about the campus-wide information security initiative, and other useful tips. We hope you find this newsletter a useful resource throughout the year. Best wishes for a great semester!

Protecting Sensitive Information – Everyone's Business - Dave Smallen

While we tend to think of data breaches occurring in banks and other financial institutions they are also common in higher education. Over the summer several members of the Hamilton community "gave away" their passwords in phishing schemes or by using easily guessed passwords. More...

Screen Cleaning 101 - Geoff Hale

When it comes to our computer screens, nothing can be more aggravating than a viewing space that is filled with more fingerprints and smudges than icons on the desktop! The advent of touch technology only makes matters worse. We are often asked for cleaning advice and while there are a number of cleaning supplies at our disposal, only a few stand to carry the responsibility of the approved monitor cleaner. More...

Combating Shameware - Ryan Coyle

How do you identify scam viruses and what do you do when you get one?
