Mark Anthony Annunziata '79

Mar. 9, 1957-Feb. 8, 2021

Mark Anthony Annunziata ’79 was a devoted father and grandfather who was an expert in managing complex construction; he would field questions about projects around the globe.

Besides his work at home, he built military housing in Afghanistan for the U.S. Army in 2013 and worked as a project manager on the construction of a 30-story high-rise in Yanbu, Saudi Arabia, his family wrote in a published obituary.

Annunziata, of Wellington, Fla., died on Feb. 8, 2021, at age 63. He spent his earliest years in the northeastern U.S., born on March 9, 1957, to Louis and Simonne Berard Annunziata, in Waltham, Mass.

Growing up in Burlington, Mass., Annunziata was a standout athlete who played on the varsity football team as a first-year student. In 2008, Burlington High School inducted him into its Athletic Hall of Fame. He was a running back who also played lacrosse. His high school football coach remembers how tough Annunziata was. He didn’t let a knee injury he sustained junior year derail his football career.

“He was a very intense kid and a terrific athlete. The work ethic that he and some of his teammates showed made a lot of things happen,” the coach said in a local newspaper when Annunziata entered the hall of fame.

On College Hill, he continued his football career and helped organize the Rugby Club. At Hamilton he forged friendships that endured throughout his life. He majored in history and pledged Delta Kappa Epsilon fraternity.

Moving to Florida, he launched New Horizons Construction Co. with his brother. They built custom homes from Palm Beach to Boca Raton and owned rental properties and restaurants.

“Mark enjoyed passing the time with intimate conversation, smoking cigars, and watching action movies, especially anything with his hero Arnold Schwarzenegger. He had a deep passion for working out, strength training others, and a low tolerance for excuses,” his obituary noted.

Over the years Annunziata spent time officiating high school football, lifting weights, and playing racquetball.

Survivors include his wife, Teresa Ann Lang Annunziata, three children, two grandsons, his mother, and three siblings.
