Met Screen and Minus 54 o F

The met screen tells the story. Look at the outside air temperature and the graph directly above it showing the temperatures rate of change. Temperature and wind convert to around -54 F wind chill. Snowing hard, and ice is rapidly forming on any open leads. Wind indicators show both the relative and true wind speeds. True wind speed takes into account the speed of the ship.

We are doing some final seismic mapping of the currently unnamed basin (a "name the basin" contest is ongoing on the ship) and will head to another area either later today or tomorrow. No outside operations tonight which, given the weather, makes the MT's and anyone else who would have to be out on deck happy.

I'm enjoying the notes from various people who have written me about the web site. Keep those cards and letters coming.
