James Ross Island

As we are looking north, the saddle gives a great sense of scale of this place. The small dot at the arrow is a person. Landing beach is at the end of the dark ridge in the center distance, left side.

On the way down from the peak, this is the view to the south. The flat area in the middle distance is the saddle seen in the previous image. The peak is directly behind me. The large white area above the rocks is a large ice cap that sits on top of this part of the island. In the past a glacier would have flowed from this ice cap down through the low area, over the slopes to the left and to the sea.

We are now all safely back on board and rigging equipment to take a very large core of an interesting feature discovered yesterday during the seismic survey. We will spend the next two days coring this feature and then head for home. It's hard to believe that the cruise is almost over and soon we will be back in Punta Arenas.

More to follow tomorrow.

Hope everyone is having a great Memorial Day weekend.

Cheers,

Dave
