An interest in interfaith dialogue helped Jennie Wilber ’17 shape a course of study that took her from campus to the country of Jordan to a small Central New York city for a summer of research.

To Jennie Wilber ’17, interfaith and intercultural dialogue is important as a means to understand other people and build empathy across cultural boundaries. With its diverse group of immigrant and refugee communities, Utica is an ideal place to study intercultural interaction. Wilber is doing just that this summer through an Emerson Foundation research project. 

Seven Hamilton students have been selected to attend the Clinton Global Initiative University (CGI U) that will take place in April 1-3 at the University of California, Berkeley. Aleksandra Bogoevska ’17, Andy Chen ’16, Leonard Kilekwang ’16, Alexandru Hirsu ’17, Emily Moschowits ’16, Sharif Shrestha ’17 and Tsion Tesfaye ’16 will attend. Shrestha and Tesfaye were among four Hamilton students who participated in last year’s CGI U in Miami.

Though traveling through Italy enjoying wine-tastings and local delicacies may sound like a simply ideal vacation, Emily Moschowits ’16 is taking what she’s learned this summer in the food and wine capital of the Mediterranean and applying it to Hamilton’s own local community. Moschowits is in the final stages of a food-studies project, funded through the Levitt Center, addressing methods of promoting local sustainable food in the Upstate New York area.

Whether it’s to Cabo, Paris or Tokyo, many people have the desire to visit foreign countries and explore new cultures. Yet increasing travel costs and a fast-paced lifestyle can keep these dream vacations remaining as exactly that. However, “traveling on a budget has never been easier,” revealed Tina Mangelova ’16, an intern at the Berkeley headquartered startup, Go Overseas.

Caroline Davis, a candidate for May graduation from Hamilton, has been awarded a Fulbright Grant to Kenya. She will spend the 2011-12 academic year studying methods of transitional justice among Internally Displaced Peoples (IDPs) in the Rift Valley province of Kenya.
