On April 6, 120 student-athletes volunteered at 18 different community partners in Clinton, Rome, Utica, and Sauquoit as part of the 2nd Annual SAAC (Student-Athlete Advisory Committee)//COOP (Community Outreach and Opportunity Project) Day of Service. The initiative was part of the larger NCAA Division III Week of Service in which groups volunteered at local community partners, including the Thea Bowman House in Utica, and Special Olympics in Rome.

Hamilton’s Arthur Levitt Public Affairs Center has joined the Shepherd Higher Education Consortium on Poverty (SHECP), a collaboration among 26 other colleges and universities that integrates classroom study of poverty with summer internships and co-curricular activities.

The Black and Latinx Student Union held its second annual Day of Service on Saturday, Nov. 10. BLSU gathered 17 of its members to volunteer at two local Hamilton community partner organizations: Hope House and Sculpture Space.

Here’s the main question College Chaplain Jeff McArn has his students explore in his American Freedom and Religious Thought class: what exactly is American freedom? Does it include equality of opportunity and socioeconomic mobility? If so, how do communities that struggle with poverty fit with this perception of freedom?

Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) and Community Outreach and Opportunity Project (COOP) joined forces this month to volunteer at local organizations for the D-III Week of Service, a conference-wide community service competition. The goal was to gather as many hours of service as possible from April 2 to April 8. Hamilton had 128 athletes participate, and they amassed 300 hours of hands-on volunteer service during the seven-day event.

The Hamilton choir’s annual spring break tour took on a new element this year with volunteer community service work in addition to choral performances.

Peter Michailidis ’16 recently launched a charitable effort that strives to raise awareness about the nationwide opioid epidemic. The charity pays tribute to the memory of his close friend Ted Barrett ’14.

More than 20 student members of BLSU recently participated in the first-ever BLSU Day of Service, organized by the COOP as a collaborative effort between the two organizations. Half of the service group volunteered at the Veteran's Outreach Center and the other half at the Rescue Mission, both nonprofit organizations in the local Utica community.

Although there are many opportunities for community outreach at Hamilton, a select group of students have chosen to go above and beyond by taking their service experience off the Hill and into their local communities.

Some Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) members made Halloween a little happier for some children and senior citizens at Faxton St. Luke’s Healthcare on Oct. 29. The student-athletes donned costumes and visited the pediatric ward and Senior Care Center of St. Luke's Hospital.
