Nanaka Suzuki ‘20 is spending her semester in Hamilton’s Washington, D.C., Program interning for Search For Common Ground’s Production Team. Search For Common Ground is a non-profit that works to resolve foreign conflicts through peaceful dialogue and discussion. Although peacemaking might not get as much public attention as more visible approaches such as protesting, it has contributed to many examples of slow yet sustainable social change in conflict-ridden countries.

Karianna Torres ’21 is interning for C-Span’s Department of Education, a branch of the network that is used as a resource for teachers by devising lesson plans and video competitions to get students involved in government affairs.

In the final event of the Fall 2018 Washington D.C Program, Nathaniel Hurd ’99 met with the students on the program and recounted how his research at Hamilton led him to his current career.

Students on Hamilton College’s DC Program recently went to Rosslyn, Va., to meet with a group of Hamilton alums who work at Deloitte, a multinational professional services company.

Speaking on Friday, Oct. 26, to a standing-room-only crowd of parents, students, and faculty on careers in defense intelligence, Greenan chronicled her career path from that internship and another with U.S. Senator Richard Lugar (R-Indiana), to working for alumnus and former U.S. Congressman Michael Castle ’61 to the Pentagon to defense contractors.

One of the greatest benefits of being on Hamilton’s D.C. program at this particular point in time is the sense that we are experiencing a distinctive and singular moment in American politics. The uniqueness of this moment is especially obvious to Washington’s journalists.

Dressed in their business professional best, students on Hamilton’s DC program took a trip to the courthouse to meet with the Honorable John D. Bates, the Senior United States District Judge of the District Court for D.C.

One of the benefits of Hamilton's Washington, D.C. program is the ability to connect with Hamilton College’s vast alumni network in the capital. Taking advantage of this, the D.C. program students recently met with Matthew Zeller ’04. Zeller is the founder and CEO of No One Left Behind.

Students on the Washington D.C. program recently had the opportunity to meet with Johnnie Carson, who served as ambassador to several African nations and was the assistant secretary of state for African affairs under President Obama. He was also a visiting professor at Hamilton College where he taught courses on African politics.

Following a D.C. program tradition, the fall 2018 Hamilton D.C. program students visited Williams & Jensen, a private law firm focused on lobbying, to speak with George Baker Jr. ’74 and Frank Vlossak ’89. Baker and Vlossak were exceedingly gracious hosts, providing an insider look at the somewhat mysterious and often misunderstood world of lobbying.
