The opening of the Wellin Museum of Art’s two new exhibitions, Yun-Fei Ji:The Intimate Universe and Pure Pulp: Contemporary Artists Working in Paper at Dieu Donné, was attended by a large receptive crowd that included several arts writers. The result has been several articles about the shows in significant arts publications reaching audiences far removed from Clinton, N.Y.

Two exhibitions, Yun-Fei Ji: The Intimate Universe and Pure Pulp: Contemporary Artists Working in Paper at Dieu Donné, open at the Ruth and Elmer Wellin Museum of Art on Saturday, Feb. 6, with a free, public reception from 4 – 6 p.m. Yun-Fei Ji: The Intimate Universe, curated by Wellin Museum Director Tracy Adler, will be open through July 2. Pure Pulp will be open until April 20. Both shows will travel to other venues.

Sixty-one percent of Hamilton students study off campus for a semester or full year. Last summer and fall, Annie Whitehurst ’16 was one of those students, studying abroad through Hamilton’s Associated Colleges in China (ACC) program. After a summer and semester in Beijing, however, Whitehurst was not ready to leave China for good. She returned to Beijing this summer as an intern with the Foreign Commercial Service at the U.S. Embassy. With support from the Scott Steven Morris ’86 Fund managed by Hamilton’s Career and Life Outcomes Center, Whitehurst spent the summer planning events, conducting research, and enjoying more time in China.

Professor of History Thomas Wilson spoke about Confucian philosophy has influenced modern Chinese cuisine and how “…Confucius has become a brand in a sense," in an article in the Chicago Tribune. In “Philosophy influenced Chinese cuisine,” published on Jan. 10, Wilson summarized the trend.  "It's marketable, and Confucius is the friendly face of civility that kind of replaces the scary face of Mao in past days."

Assistant Professor of Government Charlotte Lee published a review of Politics and Society in Contemporary China in the January issue of The China Journal.

Galia Slayen ’13, a Chinese and government major, has been accepted as a delegate to Forum for American-Chinese Exchange at Stanford University (FACES).  FACES is an exchange program that sends 20 American and 20 Chinese students to Stanford University and then to China to promote cross-cultural exchange. Forty delegates were chosen from among 316 applicants.

Luce Junior Professor of Anthropology and Asian Studies Chris Vasantkumar is the author of a chapter in Critical Han Studies: The History, Representation, and Identity of China's Majority, which will be published in February by the University of California Press.

“China’s International Identities: The Conflicted Rising Power” in a lecture on Thursday, Sept. 8, at 4:30 p.m., in KJ’s Bradford Auditorium. The event is free and open to the public.

Junior Yinghan Ding  was featured in The New York Times' Education Life section on Nov. 7 in an article titled “The China Boom.” Dean of Admission Monica Inzer was also quoted in The New York Times’ Education Life section on Nov. 7 as well as in the education blog The Choice on Nov. 4.
