Visiting Assistant Professor of Classics Jesse Weiner recently published “The Many Forms of Persian Decline after Cyrus,” an online, peer-reviewed commentary to the epilogue of Xenophon’s Cyropaedia (Education of Cyrus).

During the fall semester, 12 Hamilton students taught Spanish to students at Clinton Elementary School. These Hamilton students participated in a training workshop in order to learn about teaching methods and to discuss lesson plans. The program began in October and continued through the end of the semester.

The men’s hockey team took over the nation's longest unbeaten streak, stretching their run to 11 games without a loss and posting a 6-2 non-league win over Daniel Webster Saturday at Russell Sage Rink.

Last semester, Hamilton students enrolled in Professor Phil Klinkner's Government 223 class were educated on the political dynamics of the presidential nomination process, paying special attention to the 2016 election cycle. The class presented students with the unique opportunity to earn half of the class' credit in the traditional classroom setting while earning the other half credit by volunteering on a presidential campaign over their winter breaks. Brian Ferrell '16 worked on Republican Jeb Bush's campaign in Iowa and Mike Verostek '16 was a volunteer with Hillary Clinton's campaign in New Hampshire. Today and on Monday, Jan. 25, their articles recount the experiences of just two of the students who took advantage of this extraordinary opportunity.

Assistant Professor of Mathematics Courtney Gibbons presented “A Ring without a Boij-Soederberg Theory” as an invited speaker in the AMS-AWM Special Session on Commutative Algebra at the Joint Mathematics Meetings (JMM) held Jan. 6-9 in Seattle.

After driving nearly nine hours to Ada, Ohio, Hamilton College’s Mock Trial Team took 2nd place at the Jan. 16-17 10th Annual Polar Bear Invitational at Ohio Northern University. In addition to the impressive team performance, Rachel Dawson ’19, Patrick McConnell ’19 and Conor O’Shea ’18 took home individual awards.

Five Hamilton students shadowed family medicine residents at St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Utica during the week of Jan. 11. Each day that week, Milinda Ajawara ’16, Emily Chan ’16, Macy Lawler ’16, Yingbin Mei ’16 and Tshering Sherpa ’16 followed residents in different departments including cardiology, pediatrics, obstetrics and gynecology, family medicine and internal medicine.

Hamilton College Performing Arts presents Symphoria on Sunday, Jan. 24, at 3 p.m., in Wellin Hall, Schambach Center. Symphoria is the orchestra of Musical Associates of CNY, a not-for-profit organization made up of nearly 50 members of the former Syracuse Symphony Orchestra.
