  • Leila Simona Talani will present a lecture about Europe’s migration crisis on Monday, Feb. 19, at 7:30 p.m. in the Red Pit, KJ. This lecture is free and open to the public, and sponsored by the Levitt Public Affairs Center.

  • Janet Halley, the Royall Professor of Law at Harvard Law School, will present a lecture titled “Rethinking Campus Sexual Assault: Taking Stock of Obama-Era Reforms” on Wednesday, Jan. 25, at 7:30 p.m., in the Red Pit, KJ.

  • Robert Jensen, professor of economics and public policy at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, gave a Levitt Center- sponsored talk on April 21 about the gender bias in developing countries. In particular, he focused on the economic and cultural implications of preferences toward male children in India.

  • For many Americans, radiation exposure is often linked to cancer treatment or atomic fallout. For villagers living in and around Semipalatinsk, however, exposure to radioactivity is a part of everyday life. Semipalatinsk, nicknamed “the Polygon” due to its cartographic shape, is located in east Kazakhstan and is the world’s largest nuclear test site.  Medical Anthropologist Magdalena Stawkowski, the MacArthur Nuclear Security Postdoctoral Fellow at the Center for International Security and Cooperation, spent 20 months living just outside of the “official” borders of the Polygon. She spoke at Hamilton on Oct. 7 about the lifestyle and health of residents in the Polygon.

  • Hamilton’s Levitt Center hosted two experts on March 4 for a lecture and discussion on the sexual abuse of minors. Ross Cheit, Brown University professor and author of the new book The Witch-Hunt Narrative: Politics, Psychology, and the Sexual Abuse of Children, and Barry Anechiarico of the Counseling and Psychotherapy Center in Newton, Mass., discussed themes including the stigmatization of the survivors of sexual assault, the effects of punishment versus treatment of convicted sex offenders, and the psychological motivations behind sexual predators.

  • Ross Cheit, the author of  The Witch-Hunt Narrative: Politics, Psychology, and the Sexual Abuse of Children, and  licensed clinical social worker Barry Anechiarico will present a lecture, “Politics, Psychology and the Sexual Abuse of Children: Dynamic Risk Factors Related to Sex Offending,” on Wednesday, March 4, at 4:15 p.m., in the Taylor Science Center’s Kennedy Auditorium. The lecture is free and open to the public.

  • Janet Halley, the Royall Professor of Law at Harvard, discussed a realist analysis of rape law on Feb. 12. Halley has an extensive curriculum vitae and has also published several books and articles including: Split Decisions: How and Why to Take a Break from Feminism, and Don't: A Reader's Guide to the Military Anti-Gay Policy. The lecture was sponsored by the Levitt Center.
