  • The F.I.L.M. (Forum on Image and Language in Motion) series opens Sunday, Jan. 31, with Nothing But a Man (1964), directed by Michael Roemer. The theme of the spring series is “In Focus: African-Americans in Film: Rarely Screened Landmarks.”

  • Vice President for Academic Affairs and Dean of Faculty Patrick Reynolds was recognized for his service to the American Microscopical Society (AMS) at the society’s annual meeting in Portland, Ore. He was awarded honorary life membership for his 17 years of service to the executive committee.

  • Seven Hamilton students have been selected to attend the Clinton Global Initiative University (CGI U) that will take place in April 1-3 at the University of California, Berkeley. Aleksandra Bogoevska ’17, Andy Chen ’16, Leonard Kilekwang ’16, Alexandru Hirsu ’17, Emily Moschowits ’16, Sharif Shrestha ’17 and Tsion Tesfaye ’16 will attend. Shrestha and Tesfaye were among four Hamilton students who participated in last year’s CGI U in Miami.

  • Douglas Weldon, the Stone Professor of Psychology, presented on Jan. 21 in a session titled “Ten Years Later – Did the Science Center Make a Difference?” at the annual meeting of the Association of American Colleges and Universities (AACU) in Washington, D.C.

  • The Hamilton College men's hockey team is ranked 15th in this week's D3hockey.com national poll. This marks the Continentals' first appearance in this poll, which is in its fifth year.

  • Members of the men’s and women’s golf teams participated in the Jan. 23 HAVOC MLK Service Day.  They moved office furniture and organized files at the Samaritan Counseling Center. A record 195 Hamilton students took part in the 18th annual event, volunteering at 22 local non-profit organizations.

  • Last week, 28 students from Hamilton, Grinnell, Scripps and Smith College visited the Spanish region of Andalusia as part of the  Hamilton College Academic Year in Spain orientation trip. Andalusia is the most populated Spanish Autonomous Community.   Among other products, Andalusia is also known for its olive oil production.

  • Professor of Biology Sue Ann Miller served on the Grants-in-Aid of Research (GIAR) Committee of Sigma Xi, The Scientific Research Society, in Research Triangle Park, N.C. Miller has served as an evaluator since 2000 and chaired the committee from 2001 to 2007.

  • In his Jan. 25 talk “Leading Nowhere: the Futility and Farce of Global Climate Negotiations,” Oren Cass criticized the global approach to addressing climate change. He claimed that it’s not that leaders don’t want to reduce emissions, it’s that it isn’t possible based on insurmountable challenges like cost and complexity.
