Galia Slayen ’13, who with Perry Ryan ’12 provided the impetus for Hamilton’s participation in the National Eating Disorder Awareness Week (NEDAW), was featured on NBC’s Today Show on Monday, April 18, in live interviews at both the 8 and 10 a.m. hours. Director of New Media J.D. Ross was interviewed for an article in The Chronicle of Higher Education titled "Colleges Rehab Their Web Sites for Major Payoffs" that appeared online and in the publication’s April 18 issue.

Dr. James Afful Clarke, Ghanaian ophthalmologist and Unite for Sight medical advisory board member, will give a lecture titled “Global Health Delivery in Ghana: Reaching the Poorest of the Poor” on Tuesday, April 19, at 7:30 p.m., in the Science Center’s Kennedy Auditorium. The lecture is free and open to the public.

Derek Jones, the Irma M. and Robert D. Morris Professor of Economics, has accepted an invitation to serve as a faculty fellow and mentor in the Beyster Professorship, Fellowship, and Related Fellows Program at the School of Management and Labor Relations at Rutgers University.

Hong Gang Jin, the William R. Kenan Professor of East Asian Languages and Literature, chaired and co-presented on a panel at the annual conference of National Council of Less Commonly Taught Languages (NCOLCTL) held April 8-10 in Madison, Wisc. Jin presented “Teacher Development Programs to Empower LCTL Teachers: Issues and Challenges” with colleagues from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and Boston schools.

The story of Eunice Chapman is not an especially famous one. In fact, many have never even heard of her struggle against 19th century society in search of her kidnapped children. Ilyon Woo’s book, The Great Divorce: A Nineteenth-Century Mother's Extraordinary Fight against Her Husband, the Shakers, and Her Times, chronicles this dramatic story with an unbiased perspective and a flair for storytelling. In a recent lecture at Hamilton, Woo discussed her research, the process of writing a book, and the incredible account of Eunice Chapman.
