As finals week begins, some theatre students got a head start on their exams by presenting a practical application of their skills with the annual Director’s Showcase.

It’s no secret that Hamilton students tend to keep busy, balancing extracurricular activities and academic work. Many have found a good way to let off some steam is through various manners of performing. Rehearsal rooms and performance spaces around campus are filled into the wee hours of the morning as students rehearse singing, dancing and other performances. In celebration of these talented student performers, we have compiled a brief round-up of the various performance arts groups on the Hill.

The Students of College 236: Culture and Politics of Food are becoming quite the connoisseurs of authentic global cuisine after a recent exploration of a few of the ethnic food markets in nearby Utica, New York.

As the bright sun beat down on campus on a cloudless October day, the students of College 236: The Culture and Politics of Food were hard at work on the community farm, bringing in a plentiful harvest.

Recent graduate Nelly Alba '16 is continuing her passion for education by joining Teach for America.

Jeremy Mathurin, the Class of 2016 Commencement speaker, immediately put his public policy concentration to use as a consultant at Deloitte D.C., the largest professional services firm in the world.

The Oral Communication Center hosted the second annual Three Minute Thesis competition on April 30. Open to all members of the senior class, the competition offers cash prizes for the students who can most effectively summarize their senior projects in three minutes or less. This year’s competition hosted 15 students whose majors and interests ranged from post-colonial economics to concussion management for athletes.

Oceanographer Robert Ballard detailed many of the revolutionary discoveries that have filled his 57-year-long career in a Chapel lecture titled “Ocean Exploration: Past, Present, and Future” on March 30. Prior to the lecture he met with Hamilton Marine Biology  and Geomicrobiology classes and science faculty.

Members of the Global Volunteers organization will be volunteering with non-profit agencies on the Caribbean island of Nevis, birthplace of Alexander Hamilton, from March 19-26.

In introducing guest speaker Dorceta Taylor, Associate Professor of Government Peter Cannavo referred to her as someone who “utterly changed my thinking on the environmental movement.” Taylor, environmental sociologist at the University of Michigan, was on campus March 3 to give a lecture titled “Food Insecurity, Resistance, and the Quest for Environmental Justice in Communities of Color.”
