A.G. Lafley '69, chairman and CEO of Procter & Gamble Co. and a charter trustee of Hamilton College, addressed the Hamilton College Wall Street Association on Thursday, Nov. 1. More than 180 alumni, trustees, parents and friends joined Hamilton President Joan Stewart at the University Club in New York City. This is the fourth Wall Street Association event. Lafley made brief remarks about his career at Procter & Gamble Co. and his experiences at Hamilton, Harvard Business School and in the United States Navy. He went on to field questions from the audience on a wide-range of personal and business experiences.

A native of Keene, N.H., Lafley graduated from Hamilton with a bachelor's degree in history, and from Harvard Business School with a master's degree in business administration. Before joining P&G in marketing, he also served in the U.S. Navy for five years.

Lafley held a variety of positions in P&G's laundry and cleaning business before being named group vice president in 1992. In 1995 he was promoted to executive vice president with responsibility for Asia and, in 1999, Lafley was named president of P&G's global Beauty Care business and the North America market development organization. Under his leadership, P&G's North America business achieved all time record high net sales. Lafley was elected chief executive in 2000 and named chairman of the board of directors in July 2002. In 2006, Lafley was honored as CEO of the Year by Chief Executive Magazine. Lafley was named one of "America's Best Leaders" in 2006 by U.S. News and World Report.

Previous Wall Street Association speakers include David Solomon '84, Edmund Taylor '82 and Richard Bernstein '80. The Wall Street Association began in 2006 as the result of the efforts of Brendan McCormick '01 and several other engaged alumni in the financial industry. The Wall Street Association meets semi-annually in the fall and spring in New York.
