Visiting Assistant Professor of Sociology Mikaila Mariel Lemonik Arthur presented a paper titled "Inside Insider Activism: Understanding Movements that Target Organizations" at the 2008 annual meetings of the Eastern Sociological Society in New York City on Feb. 22.
The paper outlines the small but growing literature on social movements within organizations from sociology and cognate disciplines and lays out a program of future research in this field. The Eastern Sociological Society is a disciplinary organization of sociologists from the Northeastern and Mid-Atlantic States; the theme for this year's annual meeting was "Beyond Ourselves: Sociology in a Global Mode."
