Bates College defeated Hamilton College, 28-0 today in football at Steuben Field. The shutout is the first for Bates since 1990.

Bates opened the scoring in the first quarter when Sean Atkin (New York NY) capped off a seven play, 33-yard drive with a one-yard plunge. Rejean Guerriero (Spofford, NH) made the extra point giving Bates a 7-0 lead.

The second quarter saw an 84-yard completion from Bates quarterback Matt Bazirgan (Newbury, MA) to Jason Coulie (Manchester, NH) giving the Bobcats a 14-0 lead going into the locker room. Coulie also completed a 48-yard pass to Dennis Perreira (Burlington, CT) in the third quarter to put the game away. Senior Paul Erickson (Merrimack, MA) added a 78-yard run for the Bobcats.

Bates finished the season, 4-4, the most wins for the Bobcats since 1982. It also was first time since 1982 that they won three straight games. The loss gives Hamilton an 0-8 record, their first winless season since 1981.
