Battleworks Dance Company
Battleworks Dance Company
Hamilton College Performing Arts, as part of the Mohawk Valley Dance Partnership with fellow members Munson-Williams-Proctor Arts Institute (MWPAI) and the Central New York Community Arts Council's Arts in Education Institute, will present Battleworks Dance Company in a premiere of "Cadances" on Saturday, Nov. 3, at 8 p.m. at Wellin Hall in the Schambach Center for Music and the Performing Arts.

"Cadances" blends music and movement in a series of voice and dance solos, duets and various combinations, each inspired by a different vocal style from around the world, including those from Moroccan, Asian, Middle Eastern, European and Native American traditions.

In the fall of 2006 the partnership members commissioned a new work from Robert Battle, choreographer and director of Battleworks Dance Company. Battle had already begun work on "Cadances" when MVDP became a commissioning partner. The title "Cadances" is a play on the word "dance" and the word "cadence" which was the inspiration for many of the sections in the full evening work.

A section of "Cadances," titled "Open the Door," was created in March while the company was in residence at the MWPAI dance studio. With the Hamilton premiere of "Cadances" the company will have come to the area for two residencies, two showcases and three performances.

In addition to the performance, there will be a free pre-performance workshop, "Creative Connections," sponsored by the CNY's Arts in Education Institute at 7 p.m., in List 104. The free, interactive workshop will be led by a CNYAEI teaching artist.

This project is made possible by funding from the New York State DanceForce, a statewide consortium. Tickets are $18 for adults and $12 for senior citizens. For information or tickets call the box office at 859-4331 or visit www.hamilton.edu/college/performingarts. Tickets are also available by calling Munson-Williams-Proctor Arts Institute 797-0055.
