The Hamilton College volleyball team (3-2 overall) split four weekend matches at the University of Rochester’s UR Invitational. In Friday’s competition, the Continentals beat the host Yellowjackets 3-1 and lost 3-2 to Penn State-Behrend before closing out the tournament with a four-set win over SUNY Oswego on Saturday.

In Friday’s opener Hamilton fought out of a 2-0 hole to force a fifth set against Penn State-Behrend. The Lions posted 25-19 victories in the first two sets before the Continentals tied the match with 25-23 and 25-11 wins. The Lions remained unbeaten on the season (6-0) with a 15-12 win in the decisive set.

Emma Lonadier '15 led Hamilton with 14 kills and Jessica Weston '17 added 10. Erin Donahue '18 contributed career-best totals of 11 kills, 11 digs and three blocks.

Anna Brown '15 finished with a team-best 19 digs, Emily Rosen '15 finished with 13 and Lonadier had 10. Kyndal Burdin '18 led the Continentals with 44 assists and four service aces to go along with 10 digs; all three figures were personal bests. Margaret O’Brien '18 had a hand in six of Hamilton’s 11 blocks and Weston was in on five.

The Continentals bounced back from Friday’s opening loss with a four-set win over Rochester (25-23, 25-20, 19-25, 25-19).

Weston, who represented the Continentals on the all-tournament team, finished with a Hamilton-best 12 kills and added four blocks. Brown’s 18 digs and O’Brien’s six blocks were team-best figures. Burdin recorded a career-high four blocks and paced the team with 33 assists.

After dropping a four-set decision to St. John Fisher to start Saturday’s matches the Continentals wrapped up their weekend with a win over SUNY Oswego (25-14, 25-27, 25-17, 25-20).

Hamilton continues invitational action this weekend at the Oswego State Tournament. The Continentals take on SUNY Potsdam and Bard Friday and face St. Lawrence and the host Lakers Saturday.
