
Professor of Chemistry Tim Elgren spoke at the Association of American Colleges and Universities (AAC&U) conference "Engaging Science, Advancing Learning: General Education, Majors, and the New Global Century" on Nov. 8 in Providence, RI. Elgren's talk was titled "Teaching of Research: Research as Teaching." He also served on the Planning Committee for this conference.
Elgren is the former president of CUR and recently co-edited Developing and Sustaining a Research-Supportive Curriculum: A Compendium of Successful Practices. A number of Hamilton initiatives were featured in the talk, including the process leading up to the building of the new Science Center, the STEP program that brought admitted students to campus for five-week summer research experiences before they matriculated, and the integrated research methods course in chemistry (dubbed "Superlab").
