Hamilton College's offense turned the ball over four times and the defense allowed 438 yards in a 45-7 loss at Trinity College in Hartford, Conn., on Oct. 4. Hamilton is now 0-3 in the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC). Trinity improved to 3-0.
The Continentals fell behind 24-0 before Ragnar Gearhart '04 (Plainfield, NJ/The Pingry School) caught an 8-yard pass from Brandon Holtslag '06 (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) with 33 seconds left in the first half. Peter Simon '05 (Miami, FL/Gulliver Prep) kicked the extra point to make it 24-7. Holtslag finished the day 15 of 32 for 159 yards and two interceptions. Gearhart caught four passes for 32 yards.
Greg LiVigne '05 (Ithaca, NY/Lansing) replaced Holtslag at quarterback late in the third quarter. LiVigne was 8-for-10 for 59 yards. Tom Bradley '04 (Great Falls, VA/Langley) led the receiving corps with five catches for 60 yards.
Chris Smith '04 (Foxborough, MA/Foxborough) led the Hamilton defense with a sack, a fumble recovery and three tackles for losses of 19 yards. Smith finished with seven solo tackles. John Rosato '07 (Allendale, NJ/Northern Highlands Regional) and Sam Bowlby '04 (Hamden, CT/The Kent School) tied for a team-high eight tackles apiece. Bowlby also recovered a fumble.
The Continentals travel to Brunswick, Maine, to take on Bowdoin College on Oct. 11 at noon.
