A. Todd Franklin, associate professor of philosophy, outlined Hamilton's Diversity and Unity Summer Institute Program at a two-day conference, Oct. 2-3, in New York City.
The conference, "Closing the Minority Achievement Gap in Higher Education," was attended by presidents and other top-level administrators from across the country.
Showcasing programs that have the potential to significantly improve retention and achievement among minority college students, the conference marked the public presentation of findings by a working group comprised of faculty, administrators
and students from Cornell, Colgate University, Hamilton College, Hobart and William Smith Colleges and Wells College. Sponsored by the Teagle Foundation, the working group closely examined diversity programs at 43 leading liberal arts colleges and universities and produced a white paper identifying 14 programs that stood out as particularly effective or promising.
