
Associate Professor of Art History Stephen J. Goldberg delivered a lecture at an Asian Studies Development Program National Symposium, Crossing Borders: Identities, Insights, and Expressions in East Asia, held at the Tufts University Jean Mayer Research Center on April 4. His lecture was titled "Differencing the Visible: How Experience is Made Visible in Chinese and Japanese Art." He also conducted a tour for participants of Mahjong: Contemporary Chinese Art from the Sigg Collection, on exhibition at the Peabody Essex Museum in Salem, Mass.
Crossing Borders was a multi-disciplinary symposium highlighting the importance of China and Japan in both traditional and contemporary contexts with an emphasis on cultural identity, shifting family and social structures, political economy, human rights, educational systems and cultural expressions in visual, literary and dramatic art.
