While working as a China Education Initiative (CEI) grade school teacher in China, Gregory Root ’09 has chronicled portions of his experience. One segment from this collection, an article about a special journey to the summit of a local mountain, was recently published in the Wall Street Journal. This publication of this article is not Root’s only impressive achievement abroad; he was also the production manager and star of the first ever tri-lingual drama production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream which aired on five Chinese national and local broadcasts.

At Hamilton, Root was a brother in the Sigma Phi fraternity and a member of the Ultimate Frisbee team. Root earned his degree from Hamilton with concentrations in Chinese and English Literature. His aunt, Dolores Root ’72 and brother Nathaniel Root ’07 are also graduates of Hamilton and his sister Amelia will continue the family tradition as a member of the Class of 2014.
