Gwen Sanchirico ’89 has just finished a successful fundraising effort to open Sacre Brew, a nanobrewery in Wolverhampton, England. With a background in environmental science and an extensive knowledge of American craft beers, Sanchirico has been developing all-natural beers with clever names such as “Marsupiale” and “Man on the Oss.” The Sacre Brew concept was a finalist in the Wolverhampton Portas Pilot competition.
Sanchirico has big plans for her brewery. According to the Sacre Brew website, “Future plans envision a full-blown fusion Belgian-beer-café meets American brewpub where the beer is made and enjoyed on the premises, along with brew tastings, art openings, beer seminars, fermentation workshops, and brewery tours. It will be a place for social and creative interaction, with no annoying music, TVs, or gambling machines to interfere with conversations.”
She will be bringing her beers to the Birmingham Beer Bash, a big craft beer festival this July.
At Hamilton, Gwen majored in Linguistics, was a member of La Vanguardia, WHCL, the Womyn’s Center, and ELS. She currently resides in Wolverhampton, England.
