The Hamilton College Department of Music will present a concert by the College Orchestra, conducted by Heather Buchman on Thursday, Dec. 12 at 8 p.m. at Wellin Hall in the Schambach Center for Music and the Performing Arts on the campus of Hamilton College. This concert features The Hebrides, also known as Fingal's Cave, by Felix Mendelssohn, Beethoven's Symphony No. 7 and Respighi's  Ancient Airs and Dances Suite III. Colleen Roberts Pellman will be the guest harpsichordist for the Respighi selection.

Felix Mendelssohn composed the Hebrides Overture in 1830, having been recently inspired by a trip to the islands of the same name off the northwest coast of Scotland.  This overture exemplifies the Romantic impulse toward graphic depiction of nature.
Beethoven's Symphony No. 7 in A (written in 1811-1812) represents an advance in Beethoven's continuing expansion of the dimensions of the classical symphonic form.
Respighi's Ancient Airs and Dances Suite III is an elegant arrangement of early music that has been adapted from miscellaneous pieces for lute dating back from the 16th and 17th century.

This concert is free and open to the public. All seats are general admission. There will be a reception immediately following the performance. For more information, please call the box office at 859-4331. Box office hours are 1-4 p.m. weekdays.
