Eleven Hamilton students are traveling to Arizona to participate in the No More Deaths Spring Break Project. This project invites college students from across the nation to travel to the borderlands in order to provide direct aid to migrants in need and learn firsthand about immigration and border justice issues. Hamilton participants are Emma Stewart '09, Caroline Miller '09, Kerry Coughlin '11, Angela Sanchez '12, Juancho Hurtado '11, Sam Doyon '12, Jesse Stromwick '09, Kate Harloe '12, Gillian Smith '09, Connor Brown '12 and Corinne Bancroft '10.
Students will spend two days in Tucson, meeting with human rights lawyers, public officials and seasoned activists in order to gain a better understanding of immigration policy and the human repercussions in the desert. The next five days will be spent working with No More Deaths in the desert region surrounding Arivaca, Az.
During this time students will meet local ranchers, sanctuary movement leaders and volunteers from other schools. They will also travel to repatriation sites in the border towns of Nogales and Douglas. This experience was made possible through aid from the Kirkland Endowment and the Dean of Student's Office. This will be the third group of Hamilton students to work with No More Deaths.
