The Hamilton College women's softball team (9-10) swept a doubleheader from Skidmore this afternoon in exciting fashion.

The first game was filled with excellent defense and timely offense as the Continentals used a bases loaded single in the bottom of the eighth from first-year Karen Pognowski (Newport, NY) to pull out a 6-5 victory. Pognowski, who went 3-5 with two doubles and three RBI, while also pitching the complete game for the win, was complemented by sophomore Jennie Gallucio (East Greenwich, RI) who was 4-5 with two runs scored. Sophomore Korey O'Malley (Liverpool, NY) went 2-3 with two RBI.

Hamilton took a 7-1 lead into the fifth inning of the second game, but Skidmore rallied to cut the lead to 7-5 heading into the sixth. But the Continentals regrouped to score three runs in the sixth inning, while Pognowski made quick work in the seventh with a strikeout and two groundouts to grab her second pitching victory of the day. In the 10-5 win, Pognowski went 4-4 from the plate with an RBI triple and two runs scored, while Amanda Chaimovitch (Westbury, NY) went 1-1 with a double and an RBI.
