New York Times columnist Frank Rich will lecture on Oct. 1.

Frank Rich, opinion page columnist for the New York Times, will speak at Hamilton College on Saturday, October 1, at 1:30 p.m., in the Chapel as part of the College's Fallcoming weekend. His talk, titled "On Art, Culture, and Politics," is sponsored by the Doris M. and Ralph E. Hansmann Lecture Series. It is free and open to the public.

Rich, a Harvard graduate, has been at The New York Times since 1980, when he was named chief theater critic. Beginning in 1994, he became an opinion page columnist, and in 1999 he became the first Times columnist to write a regular double-length column for the opinion page. He has turned the same critical eye from theater to politicians and others who populate the American cultural landscape.

From 1999-2003, he also served as senior writer for The New York Times Magazine. His columns and articles have drawn from his background as a theater critic and observer of art, entertainment and politics. In addition to his work at The Times, Rich has written about culture and politics for many other publications. His childhood memoir, "Ghost Light," was published in 2000.
