
Professor of Chinese Hong Gang Jin gave a teacher development workshop on Chinese language acquisition and pedagogy to teachers from all over the country at National Capital Language Resource Center, administered by Georgetown and George Washington University, in May. The workshop is part of the efforts to meet the increasing demand of Chinese language interest and the demand of qualified teachers and professionals.
Jin also gave a presentation at the fourth Conference on Technology and Chinese Language Teaching in the 21st century at University of Southern California. The conference was cosponsored by USC and Hamilton College. Her presentation was "The Effects of Technology-assisted Typographic Input Enhancement:An Experimental Study in CFL Acquisition." It is some of the first research in the field that examines the effect of technology on Chinese language acquisition.
Jin was elected as the vice president of the National Council of Less Commonly Taught Languages (NCOLCTL) in the U.S. NCOLCTL comprises 18 member language teaching associations that represent individual languages or geographically defined language groups. Recently it has been very active in promoting languages that are important to the U.S.
