Derek C. Jones, Irma M. and Robert D. Morris Professor of Economics at Hamilton and currently a visiting professor at the Helsinki School of Economics, presented "Human Resource Management and Performance in Retail Trade: Evidence from an Econometric Case Study" in February 2006 at the annual meeting of the Finnish Society for Economic
Research in Helsinki. The paper was written with Panu Kalmi and Antti Kauhanen.
Jones also presented at Helsinki Center of Economic Research (HECER), a joint initiative of the University of Helsinki, the Helsinki School of Economics and the Swedish School of Economics in the same month. His talk was part of the "Labour and Public Economics" Seminar and was titled "The Productive Efficiency of Italian Producer Cooperatives: Evidence from Conventional and Cooperative Firms." HECER is an independent research institute whose main purpose is to promote high-quality economic research, to develop and co-ordinate doctoral level economic education and to promote co-operation in economics among the universities in the Helsinki area.
In March 2006, Jones presented at SKOPE, a research center established by the UK's Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) based jointly at the universities of Oxford and Warwick. Jones' presentation, which was at the University of Oxford, was titled "The Effects of Training on Performance and Incomes: Preliminary Econometric Evidence from a Finnish Bank."
Jones also presented at a research seminar titled "HRM, Work Innovations and Performance," in March at the Radboud University's Nijmegen School of Management in the Netherlands. The title of his presentation was "The Effects of High Performance Workplace Practices on Firm and Worker Outcomes: Evidence from a Croatian Econometric Case Study."
