The Hamilton College Muslim America Poll, conducted in 2002 by Hamilton Sociology Professor Dennis Gilbert and his students, was cited in a Newsweek article, "Islam in America: A Special Report," (July 30, 2007). The Poll examined Muslim attitudes toward the U.S. war on terrorism and related international issues and documented anti-Muslim discrimination and harassment in the United States after September 11. The Newsweek article, in describing Muslim women's wearing of traditional Islamic headcovering, noted that the Hamilton Poll found more than a third of Muslim American women now wear the veil every day. The Poll was funded by Hamilton's Arthur Levitt Public Affairs Center and administered by the polling firm Zogby International.
