Professor of Biology Sue Ann Miller presented a poster, “Designing Effective Student Presentation Assignments that Include Thoughtful Peer Assessment,” at the celebration of the 125th anniversary of the American Association of Anatomists. The event took place during “Experimental Biology 2013,” the Federation of American Societies of Experimental Biology convention held April 20-24 in Boston.
In her presentation, Miller described the Anatomy with Histology course in which students learn about tissue organization by dissecting professionally and also research, prepare and present three varieties of short oral reports. Each format is repeated during the semester to allow students to improve their skills. Thoughtful peer assessment as part of the evaluation helps students focus on composition and presentation skills as they gain confidence and competence.
