Michael D'Ecclesiis

Well evidently the beginning of the school year thus far has provided me with a bit of stirring of heartfelt memories as well as a completely new outlook on the collegiate system. The former for me has been found in these journal entries we are required to write on a weekly basis, something I believe I have not done since middle school (7th Grade). Interpret that statement as you will. On the flip side of things my internship, and in general my complete experience this summer has really opened my eyes to what is truly important in my life. Primarily, I have realized something that I had long suspected was true, there is absolutely no substitute for work experience. What I have learned in the past 3 months of my internship at a hedge fund in New Jersey are assets never given to me in any classroom. To journey outside the womb that is college, particularly Hamilton for the summer and into the fall will provide any logical (and opportunistic) person with the knowledge and character required to function in the real world. Professor Balkan suggested to our class that we should write about how "overwhelmed" we might be with living in the city. Hailing from Brooklyn myself I've got the T-shirt but it will be fun to watch other kids in the program feel their way navigate the darkness like a blind man without a dog. If there is a general theme for this semester it should be "Learn through Doing."  Stay tuned.
