Nancy Sorkin Rabinowitz, the Margaret Bundy Scott Professor of Comparative Literature, presented a paper in January at the American Philological Association on "Male Medea," as part of the panel on Performance and Sexuality, sponsored by the Committee on Ancient and Modern Performance (CAMP). It focused on cross-dressing in Charles Ludlam's version of Euripides' play, Medea.

She also facilitated a roundtable discussion with Amy Richlin, titled Trans-gender, Trans-national, Trans-generational, on the issues facing us today.

From the abstract:
"Feminist studies, followed by gay and lesbian studies, and to a certain extent queer studies have opened up the ancient world in new and fruitful ways. The newest feminist work foregrounds borders, and their permeability. Transgender studies puts into high relief the resiliency of gender and the constructability of the physical body. Transnationalism studies different regions, comparing them and taking into account the speaker's position and power differentials."
