Professor of Religious Studies Heidi Ravven attended a meeting of the Progressive Religion and Values Working Group of the Ford Foundation. The group includes professors of religion, philosophy and other disciplines as well as experts in immigrant and other minority communities. The members of the group span many religious and cultural groups: Jews, Moslems, Christians, Buddhists and people of several nationalities. The group is developing ways to introduce a more nuanced, truer and pluralist vision of religion into public discourse.

Ravven also met with Constance Buchanan, senior program officer of the Ford Foundation, in April in New York City to discuss her ongoing Ford Foundation funded project which critiques western philosophical ethics as harboring unexamined presuppositions that are narrowly Christian. Ravven's project exposes these underlying assumptions as originated in medieval Church dogma and even earlier in Christian anthropology starting with Paul. Her project will go on to look at other philosophical and religious traditions to try to discover different and wider cultural bases for expanding and transforming ethical reflection and moral philosophy.
