The Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra,under the artistic direction of Robert Bernhardt, will be in concert on Friday,Sept. 20, at 8 p.m. in Wellin Hall of the Schambach Center for Music and thePerforming Arts at Hamilton College. Tickets for the performance are $15 forthe general public, and $5 for students.

The performance will feature the internationally renown Kavafian sisters. AniKavafian, violinist, has performed with virtually all of America's leadingorchestras including the New York Philharmonic, the Philadelphia Orchestra andthe Minnesota Orchestra. Ida Kavafian, violist, has appeared with leadingorchestras throughout North America, the Far East and Europe. The sisters haveperformed at the White House and have been featured on network and PBStelevision music specials.

A highlight of the concert will be the Kavafians' performance of Mozart'sSinfonia Concertante, which features a distinctive dialogue betweenviolin and viola. The performance will also include Harbison'sRemembering Gatsby and Shostakovich's Symphony No. 5.

The Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra concert is the second performanceof the 1996-1997 Music at Hamilton Artist Series. Additional concerts in theseries include the the Orion String Quartet, Saturday, Oct. 12; pianist MykolaSuk, Friday, Nov. 22; and the Syracuse Symphony Orchestra, Sunday, Feb. 9.Tickets for the five-part series, including the Rochester PhilharmonicOrchestra performance, are $40 for the general public and $10 for students.
