Carl A. Rubino, the Winslow Professor of Classics, presented a lecture titled “Articulating Wonder in a Secular Age” on April 24 at Augustana College in Rock Island, Ill. His talk explored texts from science, philosophy and literature in order to show how explanations that abstain from recourse to the “supernatural” can enhance our sense of wonder and mystery.
In addition, he met with students and faculty from classes in “Applied Ecology” and “Theorizing Religion.”
Rubino, the recipient of a 2013-14 Christian Johnson Fellowship for Teaching Enhancement, also interviewed Associate Professor in Classics Kirsten Day about the use of film in teaching classics.
