Men's Ice Hockey

Trinity 5, Hamilton 3-Despite outshooting Trinity, 30-27, the Hamilton men's ice hockey team was unable to overcome a 2-0 first period deficit as the Jumbos went on to defeat the Continentals, 5-3.

Hamilton clawed its way back into the game behind two second period goals by Chris Baudo and Trevor MacArthur. The score was 3-2 after two periods, but Trinity scored the opening goal in the third period and added a late goal to ensure the victory. Terry Bevan brought the score to 4-3 on a powerplay goal at the 12:57 mark, but that was the closest the Continentals would get.

Junior netminder Brent Davey made 22 saves for Hamilton.

Amherst 3, Hamilton 1-In what is becoming one of the better rivalries in Hamilton ice hockey, the Continentals travelled to Orr Rink to take on the Amherst Lord Jeffs.

The fans in attendance were treated to a dandy as they saw a highly defensive-minded game with countless offensive opportunities. Hamilton opened the scoring when freshman Dean Scherza scored his first career goal from Terry Bevan.

The score would remain tied untill the 18:55 mark of the third period when Robbie Hill slipped a shot past goaltender Brent Davey (29 saves) for the game-winner. Amherst would later add an empty net goal.

Hamilton's record now stands at 3-4-1.

Women's Ice Hockey

Colgate 3, Hamilton 1-The women's ice hockey team opened the 1999 portion of its season against local rival Colgate. Each game has been exciting and "down-to-the-wire" and the January 8th contest was no different.

The Red Raiders and the Continentals played hard-nosed hockey for three periods with Colgate nipping Hamilton, 2-1. Both schools have young teams, but that has not slowed them down as both schools have become forces within the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC). Kathleen Lubin scored the lone Continental goal which was set up by Lauren Spoon and Meghan Stasz.

Lorena Gonzalez continued her stellar freshman campaign with 37 saves to keep Hamilton in the game.

Hamilton 2, R.I.T. 2-After dropping last year's contest to the Tigers, 4-1, in Sage Rink, the Continentals went out to Rochester with a message of improvement.

RIT, one of the better New York State women's ice hockey schools, was treated to a dandy of a game as the Continentals took the offense to the Tigers and wound up finishing the game in a 2-2 deadlock.

Meghan Stasz scored the first Continental goal from Lauren Spoon and Kathleen Lubin, while Stacy Tyksinski returned to Hamilton after a semester off and scored her first goal of the year from linemate Amy Williams.

Gonzalez was again spectacular in between the pipes with 24 saves as the Continentals finish the weekend with a record of 3-3-1.
