Union officials described the plan as a middle-of-the- road approach to reforming the college's Greek system, an issue that has aroused intense debate at some Northeastern liberal-arts colleges. While Union did not do away with the system entirely, as did Bowdin College, or expel Greeks from all campus housing, as did Hamilton College, Union officials said the move would help the college attract students it felt it had lost because of its "party school" image.
