Edward Walker, M.A., Christian A. Johnson Distinguished Professor of Global Political Theory, participated in a seminar at the Institute for National Strategic Studies of the National Defense University on Jan. 10 on how the Arab-Israeli conflict affects U.S. regional interests. On Jan. 22 he was a facilitator for a panel discussion presented by the Initiative for Inclusive Security of the Hunt Alternatives Fund, an organization that brought together women from around the world who are engaged in the security sector to discuss their experiences. Walker's panel included four Israeli and Palestinian women along with about 10 other experts who discussed their recommendations for strengthening women's role in the security sector. Later that month Walker also participated in a senior panel review of U.S. policy in the Middle East sponsored by the U.S. government.
Walker was one of the respondents at a press conference held by the Israel Policy Forum to discuss the forum's previous discussions and conclusions on the Palestinian issue and the problem of Hamas on Feb. 7. He also participated in a two-day conference sponsored by the National Intelligence Council and the U.S. State Department's Bureau of Intelligence and Research on Feb. 21 to consider the likely progression of events in the Middle East as they affect U.S. policy out to 2025. Walker also briefed the professional team of the State Department's Special Envoy for Middle East Regional Security on security cooperation with the Palestinian Authority and on strengthening Palestinian institutions in February.
