
Cate Schafer '10 scored a career-high 17 points to lead Hamilton College to a 71-60 win against visiting Vassar College in a Liberty League game at Margaret Bundy Scott Field House on Jan. 23.
Madie Harlem '13 chipped in 16 points, five rebounds and four assists for Hamilton (9-6 overall, 2-3 Liberty). Alex Sowinski '10 added 14 points, five boards and four assists. Eliza Howe '13 and Blue Sanders '13 tallied 10 points apiece. The Continentals shot a season-best 53 percent (26-49) from the field, including 7 of 12 from 3-point range. Hamilton was credited with 19 assists on 26 made field goals.
The Brewers shot 50 percent (22-44) from the floor, but were just 2 of 9 from long range. Vassar dropped its third straight game.

The Continentals were able to cut the deficit to two at 22-20 late in the half after a jumper by Kim Goidell ‘13 and a layup by Sanders with 4:27 remaining. The Brewers stretched their lead to seven twice more in the half. Right before the break, Howe and Harlem each connected on 3-pointers to go into the locker room down by just a 32-30 margin.

The Brewers then hit a layup to go back in front, but Hamilton seized the lead for good with an 11-0 run. Sowinski made a jumper and Schafer got loose for a layup. A basket by Sanders was followed by two free throws by Schafer. A 3-pointer by Sowinski made the score 49-39 with 11:35 remaining. Vassar didn't get closer than six points the rest of the game.
The Continentals shot 58 percent from the field in the final 20 minutes, and made 5 of 7 from beyond the arc. Hamilton leads the all-time series, 17-2.
The Continentals travel to Clarkson University for another league game on Friday, Jan. 29.
