
De Bao Xu, professor of Chinese, published China Scene, a cross-platform, interactive software equipped for a 16 lesson-textbook China Scene-the Advanced Chinese Multimedia Course written by Hong Gang Jin, De Bao Xu and James Hargett, (Cheng & Tsui Company, 2000). Software China Scene is a complete, multimedia version of China Scene textbook. It provides the students with interactive audio, video, graphics, animation, and written materials of all 16 lessons with more than 150,000 pieces of media linked together. It includes simplified and traditional character texts, sentence by sentence listening and recording exercises, pop-up vocabulary definition, grammar explanation in the text, footnotes and cultural notes, conversational exercises, video presentation linked with individual scripts, vocabulary index, on-line instruction and help, and pop-up menu across lessons. It is a standalone program, can be used in the classroom, language lab, or at home in lieu of the textbook, or to supplement it.
