Professor of Mathematics Debra Boutin recently published a research article "Infinite Graphs with Finite 2-Distinguishing Cost" in the Electronic Journal of Combinatorics. In this article Boutin and her coauthor, Wilfried Imrich of Montanuniversit\"{a}t Leoben, Austria, prove that each member in a large class of infinite graphs has a very small set of nodes that can be used to obstruct all symmetry.  More ...

Jonah Boucher ’17 Explores Meromictic Green Lake Chemistry

Jonah Boucher ’17 is undertaking research this summer with a team of students under Associate Professor of Biology Michael McCormick analyzing various chemical and microbiological properties of Green Lake in Onondaga County, N.Y. Green Lake is notable for its meromictic properties, meaning that it is separated into two major layers of water, one well-oxygenated and one anoxic, that do not mix, even after the passage of long periods of time.  More ...

Six Faculty Members Awarded Tenure

Six Hamilton faculty members were approved for tenure by the College’s Board of Trustees during a recent meeting. The board granted tenure to Emily Conover, economics, Andrew Dykstra, mathematics, John Eldevik, history, Nathan Goodale, anthropology, Adam Van Wynsberghe, chemistry, and Zhuoyi Wang, East Asian languages and literatures. The tenures are effective July 1. With the granting of tenure comes the title of associate professor.  More ...

Rebecca Rees ’16, Andrew Fletcher ’17 Awarded Coccia Foundation Scholarships

Rebecca Rees ’16 and Andrew Fletcher ’17 have been awarded Coccia Foundation Scholarships for study abroad in Italy this summer. The Coccia Foundation was established in 1994 by Cavaliere Joseph Coccia, Jr. and his wife Elda as an organization dedicated to the preservation and celebration of Italian culture, especially among younger generations at the college level.  More ...

Faculty Members Receive Teaching Awards at Class & Charter Day

Hamilton College’s highest awards for teaching were presented to four faculty members during the annual Class & Charter Day ceremony on May 11. Professor of Classics Shelley Haley was awarded the Samuel & Helen Lang Prize for Excellence in Teaching; Assistant Professor of Mathematics Courtney Gibbons was honored with the John R. Hatch Excellence in Teaching Award; and Max Majireck, assistant professor of chemistry, received the Class of 1963 Excellence in Teaching Award. In addition, Education Studies Program Director Susan Mason received Student Assembly’s Sidney Wertimer Award.  More ...
