Students in Inaugural Program in Adirondacks Report on Internships

Very few study abroad experiences offer a chance to be truly independent. While some may allow their students to pursue directed research projects, they are often within bounds predetermined by the program. However, during the first semester of Hamilton’s Adirondack Program during the fall of 2015, students not only had a chance to be independent in their academic pursuits, but they were also able to explore areas of interest outside of their comfort zone by way of internships. Ana Castro Reynoso ’17 has been awarded a Gilman International Scholarship Program award for undergraduate study abroad for the spring 2016 semester. Last week, 28 students from Hamilton, Grinnell, Scripps and Smith College visited the Spanish region of Andalusia as part of the  Hamilton College Academic Year in Spain orientation trip. Brian Ferrell ’16: On The Jeb Bush Campaign in Iowa

Last semester, Hamilton students enrolled in Professor Phil Klinkner's Government 223 class were educated on the political dynamics of the presidential nomination process, paying special attention to the 2016 election cycle.  The class presented students with the unique opportunity to earn half of the class' credit in the traditional classroom setting while earning the other half credit by volunteering on a presidential campaign over their winter breaks.  Brian Ferrell '16 worked on Republican Jeb Bush's campaign in Iowa and Mike Verostek '16 was a volunteer with Hillary Clinton's campaign  in New Hampshire. 10 Model EU Students Participate in Euro-Sim in Belgium

The Hamilton Model EU team brought 10 students to the 29th annual Euro-Sim event, held at Antwerp University in Belgium  from Jan. 3-7. Hamilton student participants were Dumitru (Dima) Kaigorodov ’16,  Annie Berman ’18, Daniel Berrick ’18,  Victoria Bulivant ’18, Kevin Roback ’17, Hallie Skripak Gordon ’16, Charlotte Carstens ’16, Nicolas Yardas ’18, Hristina (Tina) Mangelova ’16 and Alex Hollister ’17.  The students were accompanied by their advisor Visiting Assistant Professor of Government Ivan Rasmussen.  More ...

Angel Pichardo ’17, Hannah Strong ’17 Awarded Gilman Scholarships

Hamilton juniors Angel Pichardo and Hannah Strong have been awarded Gilman International Scholarship Program awards for undergraduate study abroad in the spring 2016 semester. Pichardo plans to study in the biomedicine program at the Danish Institute for Study Abroad (DIS) in Copenhagen, Denmark, and Strong will enroll at the University of Capetown, South Africa, in the Council on International Educational Exchange (CIEE) arts and sciences program.  More ...

NYC Program Students Visit Fabio Freyre ’83 at Facebook

Students participating in Hamilton’s Program  in New York City recently had the opportunity to visit Facebook. Fabio Freyre ’83 (VP of Global Marketing Solutions at Facebook), gave the students a tour of the New York office and shared his insights about the company. According to Freyre, Facebook’s goal is to connect the world through its family of apps: Facebook, Messenger, Instagram and Whatsapp.  More ...
