To engage religious diversity, cultural understanding and social justice concerns in our area, we are dependent on the local area surrounding Hamilton College. There we find partners in education – individuals and communities – who broaden our experience with perspectives, traditions, and concerns which may encourage or challenge our own ways, but in either case enrich the possibilities for education.

Non-Profit Organizations

Non-profit organizations, particularly ones involved in human services work, are closely connected to the mission of the chaplaincy. In this area we intersect with our partners in the Hamilton College COOP (Community Outreach & Opportunity Project.)

The Oneida are an American Indian nation, one of the six nations that make up the Haudenosaunee (Iroquois) confederacy. It was the Oneida who welcomed Rev. Samuel Kirkland to this area, and it was the Oneida leader Chief Shenandoah who worked with Kirkland to establish the Hamilton-Oneida Academy in 1793 to provide educational opportunities both for Oneida and white European settler youth.

Help us provide an accessible education, offer innovative resources and programs, and foster intellectual exploration.
