What is Biofeedback?
Biofeedback is a computer-assisted process through which people can learn to improve their physical and mental health by changing their physiological responses, such as breathing, heart rate, blood pressure, muscle tension, and skin temperature. The biofeedback instruments capture these responses and display or “feed back” the information to the users via a monitor. With regular practice, people can eventually come to regulate their desired responses without the use of biofeedback.
Biofeedback is efficacious for the following conditions (for more information: Association for Applied Psychophysiology and Biofeedback’s website):
Attention Deficit Disorder
Low Mood (minor depression)
How can I get a session?
One-on-one biofeedback sessions combined with individual therapy (45-minute weekly sessions for 6-10 weeks) are available to students with concerns such as intense anxiety, panic disorders, and stress-induced medical conditions. These appointment slots are somewhat limited, so please call 315-859-4340 to schedule an initial appointment with Dr. Hama. You can also use our Biofeedback Room, which is open to all students and can be reserved through our Office Coordinator. The room is a great way to practice after individualized sessions or for anyone to just relax and recharge.
